This sculptural bookwork explores the theme of fishing. The main structure is a grid representing fishing nets and rigging. The bottom edge is a zig zag creating open lattice pages which join at the top into a central mast. Into these net pages handcrafted books and found objects from the sea have become trapped.
The grid is a key device in the history of the book. It has been used by book designers to facilitate layouts that incorporate space, scale, balance and aesthetic harmony.
Here is a grid structure with organic abstract forms creating a fusion of order and chance. Both jewel and debris are juxtaposed .........whatever is in on the tide and caught in the net.
