The film 'We are Poets' was screened at Southbank as part of 'Shake the Dust'.
Its about six young poets from Leeds who get chosen to represent the UK at the Brave New Voices poetry slam in Washington DC. Its a good insight into writing poetry and performing ........ and the film followed their progress right the way through ....

its all about performance
speaking for themselves
getting away from the negative elements that that drag them down

rehearse every day be off book know your lines
with slam you work in a time frame which is usually 3 minutes
keep focused you are going there to enjoy
rehearse everyday in bite size chunks of 25 minutes you speak for your
community
hip hop has been around for 30 years now and its going to break into something else this slam poetry could be it .........
poets are messengers
its how you say it
words are meant to be spoken
competition is the icing on the cake - we are not really against each other
its the game of slam ...... the point is the poetry leeds uk
