The construction and form of the bookwork set it apart from ordinary mass market books. It is a craft object where content and form come together to create an artwork that can be admired for its physical beauty and engaged with by opening it up. Books can take our minds away from the present moment into the realm of imagination, memory and aspiration. Likewise the bookwork is a vehicle for thought and expression. This blog looks at the book as art and all things related to books.

Summer Shows
It is the time for summer shows at art colleges. So far I have been to Camberwell College of Art in South London. I also want to go to RCA and RAS.
At Camberwell College I really liked Jack Wilkinson's work using found MDF drawing boards and looking on his website www.jackwilkinson.co.uk I liked
'17 of 18' 'Untitled 2012' - black square in an abandoned industrial setting. He uses found materials with a sense of industrial minimalism and has written a clear and comprehensive artist statement .....well worth a look.....
I also liked the colour and composition of Sarah Froelich's work ........
www.vaguesymptoms.com She has written a good artist statement - very thought provoking ........
