Making a Splash

Behind the successful outcome lies many different techniques developed

Students come to the course with prior textile experience and initiate their own themes recording practical research in sketchbooks.



Britt Proudlock's sketchbooks are bursting with expressive collaged texture and experimentation which has been developed into a display of hanging pieces.

Brenda Parsons spoke about her experience of camping out in Antarctica. She could hear the ice cracking all the time and it was constantly light and very cold making sketching very difficult. brendaparsonsartist.co.uk/antarctic-inspiration/

Previously she worked as a geographer and geologist and most recently had the opportunity to go on an expedition to Antarctica. Her focus was snow and ice and she sought to convey the texture of snow and depict the many types of white.

This is a diverse exhibition that has been well curated. As an artist who uses sketchbooks it was good to look through the sketchbooks and see the development of ideas into final outcomes.
