The construction and form of the bookwork set it apart from ordinary mass market books. It is a craft object where content and form come together to create an artwork that can be admired for its physical beauty and engaged with by opening it up. Books can take our minds away from the present moment into the realm of imagination, memory and aspiration. Likewise the bookwork is a vehicle for thought and expression. This blog looks at the book as art and all things related to books.

Beach Bookwork 3
The beach has come to Southbank and I am making a bookwork based on the beach using found material. The book can be defined as a container of information. This book object does not have conventional codex book pages - the wooden sticks are the 'pages' and the box is opened up to reveal the contents.
I have used bright blue and yellow for the inside of the box as these colours are often associated with the beach.
Across the beach is the skate area which is now under threat
