the essential mark

Mira Schendel tries to capture the origin of discourse in her graphic works.....she tries to convey the immediacy of life in a mark or symbol .....my left handed mark making has a raw energy

yesterday I drew the black line round the edge of the open pages with such force............

today I continued with the same gesture:

maybe this activity can't be verbally stated.......it is so much being in the moment of making

up close the energy of scratching downwards resulted in a torn page

the high contrast of the black marks and white paper reminds me of black and white photography

Mira Schendal's graphic works can't be read as text or image........its more non-gestural and impersonsal....... a practice  of thinking

...... in my mark making I am feeling the energy as I pull the crayon down the page and seeing the intense blackness of the mark......
