Joelle Taylor at NPD Live 2013 |
SLAMbassador UK Artistic Director Joelle Taylor kicked off the second session of National Poetry Day Live with hard-hitting lines about the urban experience: vulnerability and violence ... hide behind postcodes ....Kentucky fried complexions....afraid of themselves The poems were from her book 'Scar Tissue'. This is who I came to hear.

I was expecting an afternoon of SLAM and performance poetry but it was more a mixture of styles.
Dom Hale performed a found poem based on a string of tweet and there were interesting filmpoems projected onto a screen by Ian McMillan, Liz Berry, Ian Duhig and Jo Bell.
Anthony Anaxagorou of Respect SLAM and Outspoken performed a poem of word associations: 'This is Us' which was very effective and another of his poems had the line 'the world beats art into us' which really resonated with me.
Indigo Williams the performance poet was very thought provoking and I will look out for more of her work.
