The construction and form of the bookwork set it apart from ordinary mass market books. It is a craft object where content and form come together to create an artwork that can be admired for its physical beauty and engaged with by opening it up. Books can take our minds away from the present moment into the realm of imagination, memory and aspiration. Likewise the bookwork is a vehicle for thought and expression. This blog looks at the book as art and all things related to books.

Trace
'Trace of Life Lived'
This collage has been inspired by Schwitters' 'Picture of Spatial Growths - With Two Small Dogs' 1920,1939.
this is how I set about creating it:
I looked closely at Schwitters' composition noting a circle in the bottom left hand corner and an arc running down the centre of the picture from the top left hand corner.
I started by organizing my personal mementos by colour and decided on a monochrome circle in the bottom left hand corner then I created a slight arc in brown and cream colours running from the top left hand corner. Next I filled in the top left hand corner with navy images and then red and orange on the right
hand side. Finally I finished off with some paint.
