The Bandits Live Comfortably in the Ruins

a workshop run by Sean Lynch at FTHo speculating on how urban space is constructed and then drawing out allegories and associations

worm holes decor to remind us of the fact that all materials come out of the ground
- can be seen across London

to beautify

maximum impact created by cleaning the stonework and repairing the external features

facades of Bellenden Road were smartened up during the 'renewal scheme' ......lamps
designed by local artist Tom Phillips and bollards by Gormley
social eco system dance
Local resident Eileen Conn met up with our workshop group and gave us some background on the renewal scheme and a useful insight into public-private partnerships.

there is a real juxtaposition of buildings in the road - different styles of shop front

all the changes this street has seen since it was first built in the 1880s.....the modern signage seems out of keeping with the first floor facade.......

but a pavement cafe vibe is coming through

hip and happening

but then down
a side street

here is a sense of place .....layers over time ......compromise ...influence .....control
the shop front is  a facade      social space
fluid movement

systems of interpretation

a certain facade  - esp if decided upon by the council - encourages a certain type of business

different styles make for an odd narrative

space/place

fading history

we can see the passage of time
